Jacques Charlier (1939)
Belgium

Biography :

"A pioneer of European conceptual art, Jacques Charlier (born in 1939, in Liège, where he lives and works) proposes an approach underpinned by a critical analysis of the art world and the different so-called “avant-garde” currents. Favoring the adequacy between idea and medium, he chooses in turn painting, photography, video, music, writing, sculpture, installation, comics or advertising. He easily adopts the language of different styles and periods to better underline and caricature the strengths, contradictions and regressions of dominant artistic trends. Jacques Charlier participates in numerous international exhibitions, individual or collective. His works can be found in important private and public collections in Belgium, France and Luxembourg."
