Biography :

"Guido Sartorelli is a Venetian conceptual artist. After a period of working in the Middle East as a cadet on a passenger ship, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Venioce but he dropped out after two years. He had his first solo exhibition at the Fondazione Bevilacqua-La Masa in Venice in 1964, dedicated to the “Life of Galileo” by Bertolt Brecht. Since then he has been part of about seventy solo exhibitions, group exhibitions and video festivals in major Italian cities and in various European countries (Austria, Great Britain, Slovenia, France) as well as in Brazil, USA and China. In his long career he used various techniques, from oil painting to industrial painting, from photocopy to photography. He was one of the pioneers of video art in Italy in the early Seventies. In 1974 to 1981, he made six videotapes produced by the Galleria del Cavallino in Venice, directed by Paolo and Gabriella Cardazzo and later made video works produced by the Fondazione Bevilacqua- La Masa, Video Art from the Centre of the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara and Bit Computers.

In addition to several books, he wrote in the seventies, for various magazines such as “NAC” and “D’ARS” in Milan, “G / Studio” in Bologna, and more recently, for “Nexus” in Venice. For the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa- he was the curator of “New Media” (1978), “Intermezzo. Advertising in urban scene “and” Beep Selection “(in Sydney) in 1986. He has been invited to give many talks about his work in various public spaces such as the Academies of Genoa and Venice, the Universities of Venice, Siena and Bologna, the National Institute of Architecture of Rome, the Ateneo Veneto in Venice, the New York University as a Master in Venice, the Museum of Cinema in Turin, museums of contemporary art in Ferrara, Verona and Trento (MART), the Foundation Mudima of Milan.

From 2003 to 2009 he taught video art at the Faculty of Letters at ‘Ca’ Foscari University of Venezia. His solo exhibitions were reviewed in catalogues by some of the leading critics such as, Giuseppe Marchiori, Giulio C. Argan, Enrico Crispolti, Vittorio Fagone, Toni Toniato Dorfles, Wilfried SKREINER, Viana Conti, Giuseppina Dal Canton, Richard Caldura, Angela Madesani and others."
