Philip von Knorring (1948)
Finland

Biography :

"Philip Edward Eric von Knorring, born 3 May 1948 in Helsinki, died there 14 July 2016, was a Finnish artist.

Philip von Knorring was a self-taught artist. However, his originality was noticed already at the beginning of the 1970s when he participated in The London Underground Film Festival (1970) and exhibited with The Reapers at the Amos Anderson Art Museum (1976) and at the Moderna Museet (1977) in Stockholm, where he created a interactive video installation; one of the first to be made in the Nordics. He then continued as a photo and video artist and creator of short films, which he experimented with in the late 1960s. Nature and the landscape, as well as the relationship between nature and technology, belonged to the central elements of his art from an early stage. In the early 2000s, he built ritual, poetic and sometimes interactive installations by using, among other things, new technology, photographs and film. Using simple means, he created visual experiences filled with contemplative aesthetics and enigmatic."
