Biography :

"A film theorist in the early 1970s, Thierry Kuntzel has become one of the most important French artists today. After producing most of his videos between 1979 and 1980, he mainly created installations that involve the projection of images, light and sound.
Thierry Kuntzel was born in 1948 in Bergerac. His studies of philosophy, linguistics and semiology led him to prepare a thesis under the direction of Roland Barthes on "Film work / dream work" and to write several major texts on the theory and analysis of movie. From 1972 to 1989, he worked in the ORTF Research Department then at the INA, and taught cinema semiology and textual analysis of film at the University of Paris 1, at IDHEC and in American universities. .
It was at the end of the 1980s that he decided to devote himself entirely to artistic creation. After creating a few installations in 1974, with marble or neon, he produced the majority of his videos between 1979 and 1980 and then created multimedia installations.
Writing is also essential throughout this work.
