9+1 Polaroid Black and White Pictures

Description

“Conceptual and analytical, Danny Matthijs uses polaroid, photography and video in the most neutral way possible. The discovery of structure takes precedence over aesthetic concerns. In the case of 9 + 1, using a closed television circuit on two monitors, Matthijs interacts on the video image and the polaroid, knowing that 9 polaroids are equivalent to the surface of a monitor. This video by Matthys could be considered an example of what Rosalind Krauss calls indexical art. A video is an index, a record of something that happened. A photograph is also an index. By combining the two, Matthys adds another dimension to the idea of an index”. (Source: Jean-Michel Botquin)
