"This tape is an interrogation of the stereotype of the “portrait” through one of the possibilities of video language. The model is seated on a chair facing a large mirror, the image reflected by it is recorded by an electronic camera, and the monitor of this closed circuit allows me to intervene graphically on the mirror. Indeed, a plastic intervention on a sighted image - with an intention of coincidence between the subject and the drawing - is only possible through video.
The monitor, the only reference, offers in a single time and a single space the subject (the model), the "painter" or operator (myself), the support (the mirror) and the technique (camera and monitor).
The video image simultaneously becomes the subject of the work itself. The plurality of proposed “realities” and their ambiguity, in relation to their situation in this mirrored space, paradoxically find a balance and unity in their video result.
The theme of this work belongs to the series of "Limits" in a problematic of "inside" and "outside"."
