Inter nos
Between Us

Description

"The installation *Inter Nos* (1977) consists of two rooms connected by two closed television circuits without a sound link and a reception area where the public follows a live transmission. *“During all the action, I am locked in a room, and therefore invisible to the audience. The spectators enter the second room, one by one. A private dialogue begins between us, since I intervene in the image that the spectator sees on the screen, which provokes an individual reaction. At the same time, the audience only sees the image of the participant. »* (Sanja Iveković)"

The installation Inter Nos (1977) consists of two rooms connected by two closed television circuits without a sound link and a reception area where the public follows a live transmission.

"Sanja Ivekovic presented in 1977, in these questions, a work combining performance and video entitled Inter Nos. It is good to note that this work is no longer just a filmed performance, the video is included in the action , they now share the stage. Sanja Ivekovic will confront her body with the image of a spectator who is not in the same space as her, the image and herself being equally isolated from the public. The image of the spectator is present in a monitor, we have a face-to-face encounter between a body and an image projected live. Through caresses, kisses, languid gestures, she seems to want to penetrate the screen, to pass through the image to join this spectator whom she seems to want to touch so much. She attempts to resolve the separation which results from any representation, by the fact that the image is present but not the person behind the image. Here she joins the concept of Split Reality of Valie Export, which offered us an effect of distancing with the representation, the image and sound being separated and reassembled by the spectator, as if he had done the editing work of the time himself."
