Confrontation

Description

"The starting point of the work Confrontation was the image and sound of the tractor's engine. The sound was recorded using the cassette recorder and the members of the group photographed the object. The installation consisted of different media: prints of the photographs and slides were presented, recorded sounds played back, and at the same time one could hear the 'live' sound of the engine and see the transmission of its image on the monitor. The interlace of various media had a perplexing effect on the viewer's perception. The work asserted further tenets of the group:

We propose a type of scholarly approach and analytical spirit which is an expression of the attitude of relativizing the things surrounding us by arranging them in opposition to each other and creating new possibilities for their functioning. The projects we undertake are an attempt to define the nature of meaning, of the impact of contemporary techniques of visual transmission, and the possibility of employing them in the role of stimulators of attitudes of a new type of perception. Photography, film, video are essential elements of contemporary civilization, mass media of visual transmission – through modern technologies with a special character of impacting on our process of perceiving reality, we establish a dialogue with the new reality dominated by visual elements shaped by modern media. "
