25 Caramboles and Variations

Description

"Cardena placed three video cameras around a billiard table to register a game played repeatedly from the same positions. This installation, consisting of three monitors placed on a table, shows the result. A cannon is repeatdly made and the balls pass from the left monitor via the centre to the right one. In the first shots, the screens only reveal the colours of the billiard balls and the cloth; the actual shots only gradually become clear over a period of time as the cameras zoom out. After the 25 cannons, 8 * 25 images variations follow, in which Cardena changes the temporal scale, varies the direction of play or plays with the camera adjustment. The installation creates the illusion of a game in a void."
